Le Coordinateur du centre / The crazy and fun-loving Coordinator of the centre

Mon temps à CAFORMA n’aurait pas été aussi bien sans la présence d’Alexis, le Coordinateur du centre agricole. Son dévouement au centre aussi bien que sont caractère amusant a rendu mon expérience vivante. C’est un réfugié rwandais qui vit ici au Burkina Faso. Il a une femme et 4 enfants (dont un qui vient de naître comme vous le voyez dans la photo !) et pourtant il vit dans le centre, à 96 kms de sa famille. Il a choisi de vivre à cette distance pour être le plus efficace possible pour le centre et pour aider la communauté locale afin de réduire l’insécurité alimentaire dans la région. La région de Bazèga est très pauvre et un simple coup d’œil suffit pour se rendre compte que les enfants souffrent de malnutrition ici. CAFORMA transforme la vie de ces familles.

A part son dévouement au centre et à son travail, il rend mon travail vivant avec sa personnalité pleine de vie. Pendant nos plusieurs petits voyages à la ville la plus près (15 kms- Toecé) à moto, il a insisté pour m’apprendre à chanter à l’africaine : avec les poumons ! Maintenant, à chaque fois que j’entends la chanson qu’il m’a apprise, je pense à ce trajet ! La chanson n’est pas complète sans ce trajet. La seule chose qui a nous a empêché de chanter était une grande vague de poussière de temps en temps. Est-ce que vous voulez connaître l’état de ce chemin de campagne ? On va dire qu’on s’est amusé à essayer d’arriver à notre destination sain et sauf !

My time in CAFORMA would not have been the same without the presence of Alexis, the Coordinator of the agricultural centre. His dedication to the centre as well as his crazy character made the experience come alive! He’s a Rwandian refugee here in Burkina Faso. He has a wife and four children (one of whom was just born!) yet he lives on campus, 96 kms from his family. He has chosen to live at this distance in order to work for the centre and help the local community develop and to reduce food security issues in the area. The Bazèga region is extremely poor and a simple visit to the area is enough to realise that a lot if not the majority of children are malnourished here. CAFORMA is transforming the lives of these families.

Besides Alexis’ dedication to the centre and to his work, he makes his work come alive with his lively personality. On our few trips on the motorbike to the nearest town, Toecé, he insisted upon teaching me a song, and now each time I hear it, I think of this particular trip! The song is just not complete without the road. When I say he taught me to sing, I mean African singing: with your LUNGS and not the mouth! The only thing that stopped our singing was the occasional strong gust of dusty wind. Need I mention the state of the country road? Let’s just say it was a lot of fun trying to arrive at our destination in tact!
