Les enfants / The Children

Je dois vous parler des enfants qui habitent près de CAFORMA.

Pendant plusieurs jours, je les regardais se promener dans les champs, cherchant quelque chose à faire. Ensuite je les ai vus en train de trainer autour de nous lors du repas de midi et je ne savais pas vraiment pourquoi. Lorsque presque tout le monde fût parti, un petit garçon d’environ 7 ans est venu me demander en Mooré s’il pouvait avoir les restes. J’ai eu tellement mal au cœur. Cela se passe comme cela tous les jours.

Vu que ces enfants n’avaient apparemment pas grande chose à faire, j’ai décidé d’essayer de leur apprendre quelque chose d’amusant. J’ai pris ma corde à sauter et je leur ai montré comment s’en servir. Ils ont trouvé cela vraiment amusant et le lendemain ils sont venus à mon bureau pour chercher la corde. Je les ai regardés jouer à l’extérieur. Ils sautaient à la vitesse de la lumière ! Je suis allée dehors jouer avec eux, c’était très amusant.

Maintenant je suis en train de réfléchir à des jeux que je pourrais leur apprendre pour leur donner quelque chose à faire. Lorsque j’étais enfant, je me souviens d’avoir joué à plein de jeux amusants, mais ces enfants jouent avec des branches. Je ne les ai jamais vu jouer à quelque chose de vraiment innovant ou amusant.

J’aime tellement les enfants ici ! Même si certains d’entre eux sont malades avec des vers ou des toux, ils sont quand même joyeux et comme tous les enfants, ils s’amusent avec des jeux très simples.

I have to mention something about the kids who live near CAFORMA. For several days, I watched them walking around in the fields, looking for something to do. I then saw them at lunch hanging around outside one day, and I didn’t really know why. When almost everyone had left, a little boy about 7 years old came and asked in Mooré if he could have the leftovers. I felt really bad for them. This happens every day.

Because these kids seemed to just wander around together, I thought I’d try to teach them to do something fun. I took my skipping rope and showed them how to skip. They thought this was really good fun and the next day, they came to my office to get the skipping rope. (They follow me everywhere now!) I watched them play outside. They skip at the speed of light! I then went out to play with them, and it was such fun.

I’m now trying to think of games I can teach them to give them something to do and also because when I was a child I remember skipping, doing hop scotch, and playing lots of games, but these kids play with sticks. I have yet to see them play something inventive or really fun.

I love the kids here! Even though some of them are obviously sick with worms and really heavy coughs, they’re still joyful and like all other kids, really excited with simple games!
