Le vendredi 6 novembre 2009, l’équipe d’ADRA Niger était présente pour fêter l’arrivée de nouveau matériel dans un centre de formation pour jeunes femmes à Niamey.
Ce centre a pour mission d’autonomiser ces jeunes femmes par l’apprentissage d’un métier (maîtresse de maison ou couturière), pendant 3 ans, ce qui les aidera à sortir d’une situation très précaire (prostitution, mendicité...). Ce centre souhaite accueillir 57 filles.
Il a été créé par une association locale « Femmes Sans Frontière » (FSF). Cette association gère 11 groupements féminin sur Niamey. Sa présidente, Mme Sadio, a sollicité une aide financière auprès d’ADRA.ADRA France a été mis au courant de ce projet et a souhaité prendre part financièrement grâce à l’achat de tables, de chaises et de bancs ainsi que de machines à coudre, matériel de couture et de cuisine.

Puis une démonstration sur le matériel livré a été réalisée.

Toute cette passation a été filmée et retransmise à la télévision locale le soir même et lors d’un reportage il y a 2 jours, ce qui permet de mieux faire connaître nos actions.

Avant, cette "inauguration", l'équipe d'ADRA Niger a conclu un accord sur la bonne gestion du matériel. Ainsi, j'ai participé à une partie de l'achat du matériel de couture avec la présidente.Et maintenant, mon rôle sera de venir régulièrement au centre pour "contrôler" l'utilisation de ce matériel.
Ce que je retiens de cette matinée?
Les visages reconnaissants de ces jeunes filles recevant ce matériel, ainsi que la joie que l''on pouvait lire dans leur yeux. Même si je ne parle pas la même langue qu'elles, un sourire est toujours un langage universel...
On Friday, November 6th, 2009, the ADRA Niger team was present to celebrate the arrival of new material at a young women's training center in Niamey.
The center's mission is to help young women become independent by teaching them a skill (cooking, sewing, etc.). Before coming to the training center, some of these young girls were involved in prostitution or were forced to beg to be able to eat. The center currently has 57 girls in attendance.
The center was created by a local NGO called "Women Without Borders". This organization manages 11 women's centers in Niamey. The president, Madame Sadio, had made a request for funding from ADRA.
ADRA France was informed of the project and decided to take part in supplying the necessary funding to buy tables, chairs, and benches as well as sewing machines and sewing and cooking materials.

The center did a demonstration on how the material distributed would be used.
6. A student doing a hem using a sewing machine provided by ADRA while being watched by the sewing teacher, Mr. Brooks, the director of ADRA Niger, and other students.

Before the inauguration, the ADRA Niger team had signed an agreement with Women Without Borders ensuring that the material distributed would be managed appropriately. I was able to help out by buying some of the sewing materials with the president. Now, my role will be to visit the center regularly to make sure everything is being using properly.
What will I most remember about this distribution?
The looks of thankfulness on the faces of the young girls receiving the material as well as the joy that one could see in their eyes. Even though I do not speak the same language as these girls, a smile is a universal language...

Later, the mayor gave a speech describing the activities of Women Without Borders and thanking ADRA France and ADRA Niger for their support.
